America's Camp Directors

Directors Danny Metzger, Jay Toporoff, and Jed Dorfman with special guests Verne "Mini Me" Troyer and Phil Fondecaro.

America's Camp was the brainchild of founders Jed Dorfman, Jay Toporoff and Danny Metzger. They have directed the camp since its inception in 2002. In 2007, Beth Griffin was named the assistant to the directors. This leadership team brings a wealth of experience to the direction of America's Camp.

Jed Dorfman is the director of Camp Walt Whitman, in New Hampshire. Jed started as a camper there in 1983, and has spent over 20 summers as a camper, counselor, and administrator. He recently became co-director of Walt Whitman. In addition to his professional experience at camp, Jed has also worked as a sixth grade teacher. Jed attained his B.A. from Emory University in 1997, and recently completed a Masters in Business Administration from The Peter F. Drucker School of Management in Claremont, California.

Danny Metzger was the director of Camp Mah-Kee-Nac with his wife, Nancy, from 1983 until 2002. He currently works as the director of West Coast Development and Operations for CampGroup, assisting in staff and camper recruitment on the West Coast. Danny attended the University of Pennsylvania as an undergraduate and earned a B.S. in Marketing from the Wharton School in 1971.

Jay Toporoff has been the director of Camp Danbee since March 1991. Jay has many years of experience working with children and young adults, having worked as an educator prior to becoming a camp director. Jay received a B.A. from Bentley College in 1978 and earned a Masters in Education from Springfield College in 1991. He completed doctoral studies at Vanderbilt University in the field of Educational Leadership in 1993.
